Amirtha Varshini

The magic that is the pristine art form of Bharatanatyam captured Amirtha Varshini Aravinda Venkatesan from early years. She eventually enrolled into Srimathi Sridevi Srinivas's classes when she was 8 to pursue the art. Aside from dance, she trained in other art forms such as playing string instruments, like the violin, viola and cello. Throughout Amirtha's high school career, she led and participated in several small ensembles and was also part of the Marlboro High School Pit Orchestra as a violinist, which won the Basie award for the best pit orchestra in 2022. Amirtha graduated from Marlboro High School this year, and is starting her college career at Rutgers Ernest Mario School of Pharmacy in the upcoming fall.

Sanjana

Sanjana has been learning Bharatanatyam under the guidance of Guru Sridevi Srinivas since she was six years old. As the years went by, her love for dance started to develop into one of her passions. Her inner feelings shine through each dance, as she believes that one's facial expressions convey narratives and evoke emtions. Through determination and hard work, her dedication is noteworthy. Along with dance, she knows how to play the piano and the clarinet as well. In September she will be a senior at South Brunswick High School. Her interests in school include science and literature, in which she wants to pursue medicine in the future. She loves to experience new things and travel with her family.

Guru: Thirumathi Sridevi Srinivas

Thirumathi Sridevi Srinivas

Sridevi Srinivas is the founder and artistic director of Sri Art Academy. At a young age, Sridevi was introduced to Bharathanatyam in the Pandhanallur style under the guidance of Kalaimamani Smt. Krishnakumart Narendran. She performed in several prestigious events including the Natyanjali festival at Chidambaram and Perur, Tamil Nadu. She has played lead roles in her Guru’s dance productions. As a growing artist, Sridevi has won accolades notably the Talent promotion competition organized by Tamil Nadu Iyal Isai Nataka Mandram, Chennai. Doordarshan Kendra, Chennai has acknowledged her as a state level Bharathanatyam artist. Sridevi is recognized and celebrated for her exceptional Karanas(postures) and Bhavas(expressions) by connoisseurs of art.

Thirukural attributed to Saint Thiruvalluvar is the most celebrated Tamil Poetry minimalist in words but skillfully embedded with an ocean of information dealing with everyday virtues of individuals including ethics and morality. A few of those kurals have been chosen to be presented in the form of dance.

These lines are chosen from Devalam in reverence to Lord Nataraja of Chidambram who protects all forms of life without any reservation. We conclude with seeking His blessing for prosperity, peace, good governance and harmony to sustain this universe.
